Organocobalt Chemistry

We are intrigued by carbon-rich ligands and expected that carbon rich tetraalkynes would undergo cobalt mediated [2+2] reactions to deliver unusual organometallic architectures. In our first foray into this area we observed an unusual double [2+2] reaction which delivered a binuclear complex. Whilst recrystallised yield was low the complex serves as a model for a proposed intermediate in the industrially important  p-xylene polymerisation process.
